What’s all the fuss about Probiotics?

What’s all the fuss about Probiotics?

Our bodies rely on a healthy balance of bacteria to function optimally.  The health of the whole body depends upon a balanced microbiome (beneficial bacteria).  Our weight, mood, digestion, skin, gum tissues, joints, brain, immune system, heart health, and more are affected by the health of the microbiome. There are many modern-day effects that are causing disruption in maintaining a healthy microbiome.  Sugary foods, processed foods, antibiotics, medications, environmental toxins, and stress all have negative consequences on our microbiome which may affect not only our gut health, but also our oral health. At TKDDS we offer a full line of Oral Probiotics for Adults and Children.  Oral probiotic strains differ from gut probiotics in that they colonize the mouth more easily and are meant to reside on the gum tissue, tongue, tonsils, ear, nose, and throat. At TKDDS, we offer Hyperbiotics Oral Probiotic products.  Hyperbiotics chewable tablets and toothpaste are vegetarian, non-GMO, and free of gluten and yeast. There is also no soy, sugar, iron, nuts, artificial flavors, artificial colors, or preservatives. Free samples of all of our Hyperbiotics products are available while supplies last.  Come and visit us TODAY and start improving your health in a BIG WAY! PRO-Dental…

3D Imaging and CBCT and Cone Beams – OH MY!

3D Imaging and CBCT and Cone Beams – OH MY!

There has been A LOT of interest lately in dental 3D imaging (technically known as Cone-Beam Computerized Tomography or CBCT)- especially regarding its use in evaluating root canal teeth and areas in the bone where teeth have been removed.  Below are some answers to the most commonly asked questions from our TKDDS community of patients.  We hope it is helpful and we WELCOME you into this important conversation! What is a Cone Beam (CBCT)? Cone-beam computed tomography systems (CBCT) are a variation of a CT Scan.  The data collected by the scan is used to reconstruct a three-dimensional (3D) image of specific regions of the patient’s teeth, ligaments, nerve canals, sinuses, upper and lower jaw bone. What are the benefits? CBCT offers a three-dimensional image vs. a two-dimensional image, like the digital x-rays taken in our office.  The CBCT allows for more visual detail and can be utilized in determining a specific diagnosis of pathology. What are the risks? CBCT imaging typically delivers significantly more ionizing radiation than conventional digital dental x-rays.  The cumulative effects of radiation are a serious concern and can lead to toxicity, cellular death, cancer, and many other significant health challenges.  Therefore, as a diagnostic tool,…

Propolis – Bee’s are amazing!

Propolis – Bee’s are amazing!

Thinking Spring as it starts to get colder.  I am excited to start seeing these lovely guys out and about! Did you know that honey isn’t the only thing that bees make? They also produce a compound called Propolis that comes from the sap on needle-leaved trees or evergreens. When the sap is combined with their own discharges and beeswax, it creates a sticky, greenish-brown product that is used as a coating to build their hives. This is Propolis. Ancient civilizations have used Propolis for treating abscesses, fighting infections, helping the healing processes, and Egyptians even used to it embalm mummies. The composition of Propolis varies depending on the location of the bees and what types of trees and flowers they have access to, making it hard for researchers to come to general conclusions of the health benefits. But researchers have identified more than 300 compounds in Propolis, with the majority of them being polyphenols, which are antioxidants that fight disease and damage in the body.  Propolis is thought to have antibacterial, antiviral, anti fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.  Possible uses include; -Putting it on wounds can help them heal faster by speeding up new healthy cell growth -Applied to cold…

Welcome Sally – Your new TKDDS Hygienist!

Welcome Sally – Your new TKDDS Hygienist!

Hello TKDDS Community! I am Sally, and I have been a dental hygienist for over 12 years. I graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2006. I am thrilled to begin a new adventure with Dr. Kaur and her amazing team! I know I am going to learn so much, and am excited to be part of a dental practice that focuses on total body health with a holistic approach. A bit about my personal life- I was born on a farm in Iowa, so I love being outdoors as much as I can. My husband and I have 2 children, an 8 year old daughter and a 4 year old son. I also have 2 fur babies, a golden retriever and a crabby cat, and hopefully someday some chickens! I enjoy reading, traveling, cooking, biking, and being silly with my kids. I love everything about the dental field, from the clinical setting, to education, to learning, but I especially love the relationships with my patients. I look forward to meeting you and being part of your healthcare team! For more information about our expanding TKDDS team – Click Here https://www.tarakaurdds.com/our-team/

Due to the exponential growth of our dental practice in 2018, it became apparent that if I wanted to continue taking new patients into the practice, I could no longer keep up with the demands by myself.  After careful reflection and the help of perfect divine timing, Dr. Laabs…

What is a Biological Dentist?

What is a Biological Dentist?

What does it mean to be a Biological Dentist? Our bodies are complex and amazing works of art!  Dr. Kaur and the TKDDS Team understand that not all dental materials are compatible with our bodies.  At TKDDS, we work to maximize our patient’s positive outcomes with dental materials while taking into consideration the necessity to minimize toxicity and immune reactivity. Many dental materials have not been tested on people that have sensitivities.  Immune responses in the US population have been on the rise.  In fact “the prevalence of multiple chemical sensitivities has been reported to be somewhere between 12% and 33% in the general population, with 2% to 6% having been actually diagnosed.” By being a biocompatible dentist, Dr. Kaur is able to treat dental needs while at the same time reducing potential toxicity or immune reactions in her patients.  This provides our patients with a peace of mind.  For patients that choose to forego dental materials testing, Dr. Kaur only uses dental materials in her office which she has found to be the most biologically compatible for the majority of her patients. At TKDDS we offer resources for different dental materials testing options: Clifford Materials Reactivity Testing (CMRT): This…
